Preventative Care

Preventative dentistry is essential to maintaining good dental health.  It is your first line of defense in preventing or stopping further progression of cavities and oral disease.  Dr. Emory Young and Dr. Collyer Young are experts at this type of dental care.

We recommend professional teeth cleanings and exams at least twice a year.  Why every six months?  That is because calculus, or tartar usually begins forming on your teeth 90 to 120 days after a teeth cleaning.  However, it is beneficial for people with more tartar or with gum disease to come in for teeth cleanings more often.

Along with teeth cleaning, Dr. Emory Young and Dr. Collyer Young offer professional dental exams.  Dental exams are very important in detecting and preventing oral cancer, gum disease, and other dental problems such as cavities or damaged fillings.  The faster your dentist is able to catch these problems, the easier it will be to treat them.

Don’t you want to keep your natural teeth for the rest of your life?  Preventative dentistry is the best way to ensure that you will be able to keep your teeth well into old age.
